Flames and thick smoke were seen rising near an Aramco facility in Riyadh as Yemen’s Houthis claimed a missile and drone attack targeting Saudi Arabia’s critical energy infrastructure. The group says precision-guided missiles and suicide drones were launched towards the site and claimed direct hits, although Saudi authorities have yet to publicly establish that the Houthi attack caused the fire. The incident puts renewed scrutiny on Saudi Arabia’s heavily fortified air-defence architecture. Riyadh has spent heavily on sophisticated American-made weapons intended to protect its skies and strategic infrastructure, while the Saudi capital lies hundreds of kilometres from Yemen. Aramco, meanwhile, sits at the heart of the kingdom’s oil industry and plays a crucial role in global energy markets. The full extent of any damage remains unclear, but the Houthi claim signals an attempt to demonstrate that strategic targets deep inside Saudi territory remain within reach. #saudiarabia #riyadh #a
