Former senior Army officers have accused ministers of failing to protect veterans in the Northern Ireland Troubles Bill. They want stronger safeguards against repeated legal action over incidents from the conflict. The Government says the bill includes protections for former soldiers and aims to help families find answers about Troubles-era deaths. The disagreement centres on proposed amendments and the UK’s legacy agreement with Ireland. Having served in Northern Ireland, the former officer says ministers are ignoring veterans’ concerns and argues that Sinn Féin is trying to rewrite the history of the Troubles. Duncan Barkes speaks with retired Army colonel and defence analyst Simon Diggins. Have you got a story?
