Al-Qaeda-linked propaganda has praised the attempted takeover of Flydubai Flight FZ1073 and called for copycat attacks targeting US and Israeli aircraft. The editorial referenced both the September 30 cockpit attack and the September 11, 2001 terror attacks. The Flydubai flight was travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv when Omani co-pilot Hamam al-Hammami attacked Captain Smit Machchhar in the cockpit, sending the aircraft into a steep descent. UAE authorities have described the incident as a terrorist attack. Machchhar managed to open the cockpit door, allowing passengers and crew to overpower the co-pilot before the aircraft landed safely in Saudi Arabia. Investigators are examining al-Hammami’s background and possible extremist links. However, Israeli investigators have indicated that he may have acted alone, and there is currently no confirmed evidence that Al-Qaeda directed the attack. --- Al-Qaeda | Flydubai Attack | Flydubai FZ1073 | Hamam Al-Hammami | Smit Machchhar | Copycat Atta
