Ruto directs TSC to increase teacher promotion slots to 50,000

President William Ruto has directed the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to increase the number of teachers set for promotion in the 2026/27 financial year from 34,000 to 50,000. Speaking during World Teachers’ Day celebrations at Kasarani, Ruto said the TSC had advertised 34,016 promotion slots, with KSh2 billion allocated for the exercise. He said the government would provide additional funding to facilitate the increase to 50,000 promotion slots. Meanwhile, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has urged striking university lecturers to end their strike and return to work. Ogamba said the government remains committed to resolving the lecturers’ grievances through negotiations.
