Barcelona erupted in a mass housing protest on Monday night as demonstrators took to the streets over soaring rents, evictions and the shortage of affordable homes. Footage shows huge crowds marching through central Barcelona before clashes broke out, with protesters building burning barricades and throwing objects as police advanced with batons and shields. Local reports said 13 people were arrested and 28 police officers were injured. Organisers estimated the demonstration at 120,000 people, while Barcelona’s Guardia Urbana put attendance at around 20,000. Average rents in Barcelona stood at €1,137 a month in the first quarter of 2026, while property prices climbed above €5,000 per square metre. Housing groups are now pushing for a general strike, adding pressure on Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez amid a deepening housing crisis. #barcelona #spain #housingcrisis #rentcrisis #housingprotest #barcelonaprotest #spainprotests #rentprices #housingcosts #evictions #policeclash #prote
