Scientists may have found one of the strangest gravitational-wave signals ever detected — and researchers are now testing whether part of it could have traveled through a wormhole. The signal, known as GW190521, was detected by LIGO and Virgo in 2019 and lasted only about 0.1 seconds. The standard explanation is that two massive black holes collided, forming an intermediate-mass black hole. But a recent study explored an extraordinary alternative: what if GW190521 was not the complete black hole merger, but a gravitational-wave echo transmitted through a wormhole? And the hypothesis becomes even stranger. In the proposed model, the original black hole merger could have occurred in another universe, with only part of the gravitational-wave signal crossing through the wormhole into ours. Does this mean scientists discovered a real wormhole? Not yet. The normal black hole merger explanation still fits the observations better. But GW190521 is allowing scientists to test something once cons
