A British pro-Russian soldier accused of recruiting foreign fighters for Russia has told LBC that at least 15 British men have signed up to join Vladimir Putin’s forces in Ukraine. Ben Stimson left Oldham, Greater Manchester, in 2024 to join the Russian army in Ukraine’s Donbas region, where he worked as an engineer and trained other English-speaking recruits for the frontline. In a rare interview, Stimson, who is now a Russian citizen and reservist living in Moscow, told LBC he knew of around 15 Britons who had joined Putin’s war and that “there could be more”. 00:55 What lead Ben to Russia 02:36 Joining the Russian Army 03:31 Does he call it a war? 05:07 British Fighters in Russia 06:20 Bradley Townsend 09:12 Does he feel responsibility for Bradley’s death? 10:20 Will he go back into the military 12:02 Nathan Stobbart 14:03 What Ben’s future looks like? 14:49 Is he a traitor? 16:33 Is Russia free?
