India has condemned an attack on a commercial tanker in the Strait of Hormuz after 11 Indian sailors were injured when a projectile struck the Panama-flagged MT On Peace off Oman. Twelve crew members were injured overall. India’s Ministry of External Affairs says 17 of the 19 people aboard were Indian nationals. The injured sailors were evacuated with assistance from Omani authorities and are receiving medical treatment in Khasab. New Delhi thanked Oman for its help while calling the continuing attacks on commercial shipping a matter of “deep concern.” India also called for an immediate end to attacks on commercial vessels and warned against seafarers and civilian infrastructure being caught in regional hostilities. The incident underscores India’s direct exposure to instability around the Strait of Hormuz. The strategic waterway carries major global energy flows, while Indian seafarers form an important part of the workforce aboard commercial vessels navigating the increasingly danger
