Two civilian cargo ships have been struck by drones in Bulgaria’s exclusive economic zone, with one vessel sinking and sailors reported missing as the Ukraine war increasingly threatens commercial shipping across the Black Sea. Bulgarian authorities say the attacks occurred roughly 150 kilometres east of Byala and involved both naval and aerial drones. A Togo-flagged merchant vessel sank following the strike, while a second ship sailing under the Palau flag remained afloat despite damage and a fire. All 18 people aboard the second vessel were evacuated. Bulgaria has called an emergency government meeting, with Prime Minister Rumen Radev describing the strikes as an “absolutely unacceptable attack” and warning that continued expansion of the war could increase the risk of a global conflict. The incident follows another attack near neighbouring NATO member Romania just a day earlier, where a commercial grain vessel was hit, caught fire and ran aground near the coast. #bulgaria #blacksea
