“I cannot represent the Green Party. I cannot even be a member.” In this interview, Jewish former Green councillor Andrée Frieze explains her emotional decision to resign after 14 years in the party. Frieze says the motion declaring Zionism to be racism denies Jewish self-determination and makes her feel “unwelcome and unsafe”. She describes how the party has changed and alleges that campaigners recruited new members specifically to secure the motion’s passage. She also condemns the Netanyahu government’s conduct in Gaza, while arguing that criticism of Israel should not deny Jewish people a homeland. Importantly, Frieze says she has not been personally attacked or blamed for Israel’s actions within her local party. She hopes the policy can be amended—but says she is not joining another political party. #GreenParty #AndreeFrieze #Zionism Have you got a story?
