James Cartlidge MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Defence, joins Jeremy Kyle from the Conservative Party conference to explain the proposed £10 billion “Britannia Shield” missile-defence system. Mr Cartlidge outlines plans for mobile radars, upgraded command and control, and larger stockpiles of interceptor weapons. He acknowledges that the system would not protect every square metre of the UK from day one. “We’d have a plan to cut welfare to fund defence,” he says, arguing that Britain must prepare for growing drone and missile threats.
