The internationally recognised Yemeni government's army and forces loyal to it say they have launched a military operation in Al-Wazi'yah district of Taiz, moving deeper into territory controlled by the Houthis, an armed group also known as Ansar Allah. The Houthis seized the capital Sanaa by force in 2014 and later imposed their own government. The offensive began on Monday and is focused on Taiz province along the western coast, an area the Iran-backed armed group took control of last month. Government forces say they have captured crucial highland overlooking Mansourah. Al Jazeera's Yousef Mawry, reporting live from Houthi-controlled Sanaa, describes an all-out battle for the mountains of Al-Wazi'yah, including Khaboub, Jabal an-Nar and the Khalid ibn al-Walid military base. He says whoever controls this strategic belt overlooks Bab al-Mandeb and the roads leading to Dhubab and Al-Mukha. Al Jazeera's Yousef Mawry reports from Sanaa.
