The French government has suspended the use of stun grenades by police in school protests, as it appeals to students to go back to the classroom. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez has temporarily halted the use of the grenades after a 15-year-old's hand was blown off by a grenade fired by riot police near a school in Northern France. An investigation into the event has been launched. Wider allegations have been made of excessive use of force by police in dealing with the protests which began at the start of October. More schools reopened on Wednesday, although some remained blockaded, after an estimated 250,000 people took to the streets demonstrating over school conditions on Tuesday.
