“The era of peace is over. Britain today can no longer coast.” Kemi Badenoch warns that Britain must prepare for war to deter its enemies, accusing Labour of failing to prioritise defence as the world becomes more dangerous. Addressing the Conservative Party conference, she backs a proposed national missile and drone defence system, Britannia Shield, and argues that welfare cuts would help fund increased defence spending. Her blunt warning: “If Russia sends a missile to hit Manchester, £2 bus fares are not going to save us.” Badenoch also promises 50,000 new prison places and inheritance-tax changes, while launching fierce attacks on Labour and Reform.
