The White House is scrambling to defend Donald Trump after his explosive remarks about Iran potentially “taking out” Los Angeles and San Diego sparked a political firestorm. Speaking at a Nebraska rally, Trump called the possibility a “small price to pay” while arguing that the Iran war is necessary to keep America safe. The comments triggered fierce backlash from California leaders, including Governor Gavin Newsom, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria. The White House has pushed back, insisting Trump was highlighting the threat a nuclear-armed Iran could pose to American cities, not calling for an attack. As the US-Iran war continues, Trump’s extraordinary comments have put California at the centre of a new national security controversy.
