French Education Minister Edouard Geffray faced fierce questioning in parliament on Wednesday over the government’s handling of nationwide student protests, after lawmakers raised allegations of serious injuries involving young demonstrators. La France Insoumise MP Marie Mesmeur cited cases including a student blinded in one eye, another with a fractured jaw and a 15-year-old who lost a hand during protests in Lens, while demanding Geffray’s resignation. Other lawmakers criticised the government’s education policies and proposed 2027 budget. Geffray defended the government’s response, highlighting 88 education staff injured during the unrest. The Interior Ministry said around 256,000 people joined Tuesday’s nationwide mobilisation, with 488 arrests and 43 security personnel injured. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez has suspended the use of stun grenades at student demonstrations pending an investigation into the Lens incident. #france #paris #studentprotests #franceprotests #education
