Kemi Badenoch pledged at the Tory conference that a Conservative government would scrap inheritance tax on family homes and let couples leave an extra £1m tax-free. She said the number of families paying would fall by more than half. Full abolition remains an ambition "as soon as we can afford it". The Tories put the cost at about £6bn a year, funded by £71bn of savings including welfare cuts. Labour, Reform and the Lib Dems say it favours the wealthy.
