The graves of three police officers murdered by Ned Kelly's gang 148 years ago have been restored in Mansfield after a campaign by families and police veterans. Sergeant Michael Kennedy and Constables Thomas Lonigan and Michael Scanlan were killed in an ambush, and their descendants used the restoration ceremony to challenge the romanticised view of Kelly as a hero. Police veterans who funded the repairs plan to systematically check and restore graves of other officers killed on duty across the state.
