Tear gas filled the streets of Brussels on Friday, October 9, as protesters clashed with police during a nationwide strike against Belgium’s planned budget cuts. Demonstrators took to the streets over government spending plans, while student protests have also spread across the country’s French-language education system. Students have raised concerns about rising education costs, overcrowded classrooms and limited access to study materials. The unrest comes amid growing opposition to the government’s proposed financial measures and follows student demonstrations in neighbouring France.
