The South African government has withdrawn its directive on asylum applications following violent anti-migrant protests in Soweto, Johannesberg and Durban, where cars were torched and foreign-owned shops attacked. The move follows a Constitutional Court ruling that people who entered the country illegally cannot automatically be denied access to the asylum application process.
