Kenya’s population is ageing, raising questions about whether the country’s healthcare and social protection systems are keeping pace with the needs of older persons. With about 2.7 million Kenyans aged 60 and above recorded in the 2019 census, experts say ageing must be addressed beyond pensions and cash transfers to include healthcare, caregiving and financial security. During a symposium hosted by the Association of Former International Civil Servants (AFICS) in Nairobi, stakeholders called for stronger systems to ensure Kenyans age with dignity.
