For the first time in more than two decades, the United States has refused to invite European election monitors to observe the upcoming midterm elections. That decision by Donald Trump puts the U.S. in the company of Russia and Belarus, the only two other countries to snub monitors from OSCE, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. They are widely seen as the gold standard in election observation.
