A powerful magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck Panama on Friday, October 9, damaging buildings in the town of Penonome, including a tower at San Juan Bautista Cathedral, sections of a three-storey hotel and the Cocle Governor’s Office, according to the supplied report. The quake prompted the evacuation of Aquilino Tejeira Hospital, where temporary facilities were established to maintain medical services. More than 40 aftershocks followed, while several people were reported injured; authorities had confirmed no deaths by Saturday. Tsunami warnings issued for Panama’s coast and parts of the Pacific coast of Latin America were later lifted. Tocumen International Airport temporarily suspended operations, but flights resumed later on Friday. The Panama Canal Authority reported no disruption to shipping through the canal, while President Jose Raul Mulino visited damaged areas as emergency teams assessed the destruction. #panamaearthquake #panama #earthquake #breakingnews #worldnews #magnitude77
