Protesters gathered in the southeastern Polish town of Jaroslaw on Saturday to demand tighter immigration controls following a stabbing attack in which a Ukrainian national is accused of killing a priest and injuring four other people. The demonstration, organised by ultra-conservative groups including All-Polish Youth, the National Movement and Confederation, drew participants carrying Polish flags and banners opposing immigration and the government's migration policies. Marcin Kowalski of the Podkarpackie National Movement said Poland needed stricter controls to protect families and called for consideration of suspending the country's participation in the Schengen Treaty. Demonstrators also opposed a proposed cooperation agreement between Jaroslaw and the Ukrainian town of Skole, citing a monument to Ukrainian nationalist leader Stepan Bandera. Bandera remains a contentious figure in Poland because of his association with the wartime massacres of Polish civilians in Volhynia and East
