International Criminal Court President Tomoko Akane has condemned U.S. sanctions against the tribunal, calling them an attack on the international legal order and warning they could undermine justice for victims of war crimes and other atrocities. Speaking at the ICC's headquarters in The Hague on Friday, Oct. 9, Akane vowed that the court would not bow to outside pressure. She urged member states to defend its independence and provide the resources needed to continue its work. The United States, which is not a member of the ICC, has opposed the court's actions involving U.S. personnel and Israeli officials, arguing that it has overstepped its authority. The ICC investigates and prosecutes genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity when national authorities are unwilling or unable to do so. Akane warned that efforts to intimidate court officials and disrupt its operations threaten accountability for some of the world's most serious crimes. Watch CGTN LIVE on your computer, t
