Leaders and shop stewards of the Kenya Union of Domestic, Hotels, Educational Institutions, Hospitals and Allied Workers (KUDHEIHA) have issued a 24-hour ultimatum demanding the immediate reopening of the union’s headquarters amid a bitter leadership dispute. The conflict emerged following the death of the former general secretary, leading to the appointment of Thomas Mboya as acting general secretary. However, a rival faction led by Joseph Ndung’u contested the transition and declared Ndung’u the new leader, with the faction reportedly welding shut the headquarters’ doors and cutting off vital communication channels. During a joint meeting, union members and shop stewards rallied behind Mboya, demanding that he be allowed to discharge his duties without further interference.
