US President Donald Trump made a surprise announcement of an energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine on Sunday that he said was "effective immediately." It appears Trump didn't consult Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, who said he was still waiting to see details of the deal. Trump's announcement came days after he declared a temporary easing of US sanctions on Russian diesel, prompting outrage in Europe and Kyiv. DW spoke with Anastassia Fedyk, Assistant Professor of Finance at the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley in California. #dwnews #trumpzelensky #energywar Chapters: 00:00 Trump's surprise "energy ceasefire" announcement 01:36 How credible is the ceasefire? 03:34 Is Trump's Russia diesel deal connected? 04:49 Why Ukraine's strikes on Russian energy matter 07:28 How the Iran crisis could reshape Ukraine policy 09:46 Is US politics driving the deal? 12:02 What would make an energy ceasefire actually work?
