Why do we call the same skill “entrepreneurship” on a stage and just “getting by” at the flea market? Daniel Pizana grew up working the pulga, doing janitor work, and selling door to door in Brownsville, and he noticed that the skills his community uses every day, reading demand, managing trust, solving problems with no room for error, are the same skills taught in business school, just without the vocabulary to name them. In this talk, Pizana makes the case for what he calls self-power: the refusal to hand over authority over your own life just because greatness has never been named inside your community. Drawing on his own path from the flea market to law and startups, he argues that the real barrier most people face isn’t talent or opportunity, it’s permission, and he challenges viewers to stop waiting for someone else to call them ready. This talk includes a personal story and is aimed at anyone who has ever underestimated their own experience. Daniel Pizana is a Brownsville atto
