Ukraine has stabilised the frontline as Russian forces have suffered too many losses to advance, Oleksandr Syrskyi, Kyiv’s former commander-in-chief has claimed in an exclusive interview with the BBC. General Syrskyi was in charge of the Ukrainian army until his tense relations with the defence minister Mykhailo Fedorov forced President Zelensky to dismiss them both last summer. In his first interview since his sacking, general Syrskyi told the BBC’s Abdujalil Abdurasulov how in his view Ukraine is containing more powerful Russian forces, why military success is key to reach a peace settlement and how new technologies are transforming the war.
