Eyewitness footage shared on social media shows raging floodwaters repeatedly battering a bridge in central Nepal on Sunday, before the structure gives way and is swept downstream. Powerful floodwaters surged through the Budhi Gandaki River in Gorkha district, about 100 kilometres west of Kathmandu, crashing into the Soti Khola bridge, which buckled under the force and was carried away, the Nepali Ministry of Infrastructure Development confirmed. Nepali authorities urged villagers to move to safer areas after flooding in the Budhi Gandaki River swept away several houses and damaged infrastructure. There were no reports of casualties. The Budhi Gandaki is a tributary of the Trishuli River, downstream from another tributary where a glacier collapse triggered a catastrophic flood in August that killed 1,457 people, with thousands still missing.
