French Education Minister Edouard Geffray said on Tuesday that a school shooting in Aubagne appeared to have been premeditated, as investigators continued to establish the motive behind the attack. Police detained a 14-year-old boy suspected of opening fire with a shotgun at Joseph Lakanal middle school on Monday, wounding the principal and a teacher in the legs. Prosecutors said the teenager allegedly concealed the firearm in a guitar case and fired multiple shots before a school staff member disarmed him. The two injured staff members were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Geffray said the suspect appeared to have planned the attack and questioned whether security gates would have prevented it, given that the teenager was a student at the school. The shooting comes as nationwide protests over school funding, staffing shortages and deteriorating facilities are expected across France. Authorities have reported no immediate evidence linking the shooting to the demons
