Laila Cunningham has called the government's early prison release scheme "a disgrace". It comes as stage two of the proposals takes place today, with another 650 inmates due to walk free. Speaking to GB News' Sam Francis outside HMP Wandsworth, the Reform UK London mayoral candidate said victims were fearful and anxious. She said: "You don't solve a prison space crisis by creating a public safety crisis." A Ministry of Justice spokesperson said: "We inherited a prison system on the brink of collapse. If we had failed to act the police would have been forced to halt arrests, putting communities at untold risk. "Our changes are part of a long-term overhaul of sentencing, ending the crisis in our prisons and keeping dangerous offenders behind bars. The Sentencing Act follows an independent review and was fully scrutinised by Parliament." #Prison #Jail #ukcrime #uknews #GBNews Keep up to date with GB News at gbnews.com or on X @GBNEWS Become a Friend of GB News: gbnews.com/friend
