The number of available prison spaces has jumped by 44% after hundreds of inmates were freed early in a bid to tackle overcrowding. The adult prison population in England and Wales was 86,779 on Monday, according to Ministry of Justice (MoJ) data, down from 87,499 last week. The fall of 720 is around the same number who were released last week in the first wave of a scheme which the Government said is necessary to stop the justice system from collapsing. Speaking with Investigative Journalist David Shipley, Talk's Ian Collins says: "It does show a broken society. I mean, justice is so crucial to a civilised society!" #prisons #earlyrelease #iancollins #talk Have you got a story?
