Plans affecting legal proceedings over the Troubles have prompted fierce criticism from James Cartlidge MP, who argues that British veterans who served in Northern Ireland are being used as “pawns in that political game”. The Shadow Defence Secretary joins Jeremy Kyle to discuss the proposals, the prospect of veterans facing proceedings decades after their service, and why the Conservatives oppose the changes. “It is disgusting,” Jeremy says. Mr Cartlidge describes the proceedings as “a political process designed to punish the veterans” and argues that cases involving military action should not be reopened for political reasons. The discussion also covers Brexit, government competence and competing approaches to stopping small boats, including deterrence, deportations and the distinction between lethal force and military self-defence. #veterans #troubles #military Have you got a story?
