The Federal Court has overturned a Commonwealth decision that halted a $1 billion gold mine in New South Wales. Regis Resources launched a legal action against the then-environment minister Tanya Plibersek in 2024, after the McPhillamys Gold Project was halted due it an Aboriginal Protection Order. However, the judge has found the order invalid with the project to be referred back to the current federal minister for redetermination.
