Elon Musk wants one million Tesla Optimus robots to build a self-growing city on the Moon. The robots would mine lunar soil, build their own factories and eventually manufacture more robots. This is no longer just a post on X: SpaceX officially shifted its focus from Mars to the Moon, put lunar factories into its IPO filings, and on SpaceX's first earnings call as a public company Musk said it straight: 'we're going to build the factories on the moon.' In this video, we walk through how this robot city would come together, step by step. First come uncrewed Starships landing near the lunar south pole, where robots melt and press the soil into landing pads. Next comes the industrial core: vacuum factory halls buried under packed lunar soil, and a refinery that splits the soil into oxygen, silicon, aluminum, iron and titanium. The full city would have a ring of solar panels producing around 1 gigawatt and a giant electromagnetic mass driver that fires AI satellites into space at around 2
