Iranian authorities have threatened a tougher crackdown on Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet service as internet restrictions tighten nationwide. Tehran describes the satellite network as a “tool of war”, accusing its users of enabling espionage, intelligence gathering and military operations. Mohammad Amin Aghamiri, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Cyberspace Council, says authorities possess systems to disrupt Starlink connections. Using or possessing the service can lead to imprisonment, with harsher penalties for importing or distributing terminals.
