Thousands of Colombians have taken to the streets to protest against President Abelardo de la Espriella's policies, raising concerns about human rights, democratic freedoms and social spending. Trade unions, teachers and Indigenous groups have joined demonstrations opposing the government's approach to security and its proposed anti-terrorism legislation. Critics argue that new security measures could undermine the right to peaceful protest and violate constitutional protections. The government says peaceful demonstrations are a right but insists that violence, vandalism and roadblocks will not be tolerated. While most rallies remained peaceful, some incidents of violence and clashes with police were reported. Former presidential candidate Ivan Cepeda has criticised the administration, while protesters including Alix Lesmes say they will continue their campaign and prepare for a nationwide strike.
