Russell Brand was “obsessed” with sex and treated women as a “means to an end”, jurors were told as the prosecution opened their case at the comedian and actor's rape and sexual assault trial. Prosecutors on Wednesday described 51-year-old Brand as a “ruthless, calculated and manipulative” predator who raped and groped women to satisfy his sexual appetite. Brand is accused of attacking six women in incidents between 1999 and 2009, as his showbiz career was flourishing. He denies all charges against him – pleading not guilty to three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault, and an allegation of indecent assault. Opening the case against him at Southwark Crown Court on Wednesday, prosecutor Riel Karmy-Jones KC said Brand used humour and his “charm” in the constant pursuit of sex. • Subscribe to ITV News on YouTube: http://bit.ly/2lOHmNj • Get breaking news and more stories at http://www.itv.com/news Follow ITV News on TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@itvnews?lang=en Follow IT
