People started to "imitate brands" on social media as it evolved into more image-based platforms, says author Kathryn Jezer-Morton. "We were seeing more and more advertising, we're seeing more and more brands mixed in with those posts from our friends and our family," she told PBS News' Geoff Bennett. "So the people, we start to kind of imitate the brands because the brands are getting a lot of visibility, and people just wanted to kind to be able to fit in within that visual context." In her new book, "The Story of Your Life," Jezer-Morton looks at how social media quietly shapes our narratives and how it can alienate us from our own lives. Jezer-Morton spoke to Bennett for the PBS News podcast, Settle In. For the full episode, click the link in our bio. Watch PBS News for daily, breaking and live news, plus special coverage.
