Can you design a valid experiment to explore the water cycle? In this lesson for high school students, we consider how temperature affects the water cycle and conduct an experiment to find out. Real-world ecosystems with different climates are compared first to gain background knowledge of how temperature affects the water cycle. Based on these observations, we can make a prediction to test in our experiment. As we set up the experiment, we will carefully design our setup such that we ensure only one independent variable is changed and allowed to affect the outcome.
