If your TV can’t hit HDR’s highs or lows, it has to squeeze that big range into a smaller one, and that’s when HDR can start to look flat, with highlight detail or shadow detail getting clipped. Switching to SDR often looks cleaner and more balanced because it’s built for a smaller range and the whole image scales up together.
