Noem fought back against criticism for her early characterization of U.S. citizens Renee Good and Alex Pretti as “domestic terrorists,” who were shot and killed by immigration agents during anti-ICE protests in Minnesota earlier this year. This was the first time Noem appeared before the committee since their deaths, which spurred a general strike in Minnesota and a wave of national protests in response to the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown. Noem blamed “violent” protesters for contributing to the “chaos” that immigration officers encountered in Minnesota.
