Former prime minister Tony Abbott is set to become the next federal Liberal Party president. Mr Abbott’s appointment will be confirmed at the party's federal council meeting in Melbourne next week. He'll run unopposed after former foreign minister Alexander Downer chose instead to run as federal vice president.
