Canada has introduced enhanced screening measures at airports for travellers returning from African countries facing a deadly Ebola outbreak, Canada’s top doctor, Dr. Joss Reimer, said Friday, after confirming an individual being tested in Ontario is negative for the virus. “Both the initial testing that was conducted in Ontario, as well as confirmatory testing at the National Microbiology Laboratory, were negative,” Reimer told reporters. The Ontario Ministry of Health told Global News Thursday that a patient was being assessed for Ebola following recent travel to East Africa. This comes amid an outbreak in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Director-General of Traveller Operations at Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) Andrew Lawrence said the organization’s new screening measures — which include more intense questioning — kicked in on Wednesday, noting that all CBSA officers are designated as screening officers under the Quarantine Act.
