Albertans are heading into a referendum campaign this summer on a question that could be risky to the province on several fronts as Alberta Premier Danielle Smith receives criticism from all parties involved. As Heather Yourex-West reports, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce says Alberta’s referendum comes at the worst possible time by risking investor confidence when Canada’s economy had been positioned to grow. Additionally, the Alberta separatism referendum can provide some Canadians with a sense of déjà vu. David Akin looks back on the Quebec referendum in 1995 and examines the differences and similarities to what Alberta is presently undergoing.
