Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre called for the federal Liberal government to abolish what he called the “Netflix tax” in the House of Commons on Thursday. The opposition leader’s demand comes as Netflix, Disney and Amazon are being asked to increase the portion of revenue they contribute to create Canadian content to 15 per cent – triple the initial rate – putting the costs of major streaming platforms at risk of rising for Canadians. “We will take no lessons from these Conservatives,” Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne said, defending the Liberal party’s efforts to mitigate the cost-of-living crisis in Canada.
