Western premiers held a media availability at the conclusion of their annual conference Tuesday afternoon in Kananaskis, Alta. Premiers from Western Canada and the northern territories have gathered in Alberta to discuss business, trade and their neighbouring relationships, all while the host province stews over a monumental question of quitting Confederation. The gathering, which Nunavut Premier John Main participated in virtually, comes just days after Alberta Premier Danielle Smith announced her government will be holding a referendum in October that could set the stage for Alberta’s separation from Canada. There, Albertans will be asked if they want the province to remain in Canada, or if they want a future binding referendum on separation.
