Greek mythology is full of charismatic characters with interesting stories. This video tells the story of the goddess Athena and her love for her people. She and the god of the seas, Poseidon, both watched over the land. A great contest arose between the two deities over who would become the patron of a newly built city. Athena granted the city an olive tree that would provide shade and nourishment to all beneath it. She promised the city would have knowledge and peace under her watchful eye. Poseidon granted the city with a spring of water. He promised the city would become a thriving port that would bring wealth to the people. After much debate, and the deciding vote by the god of gods himself, Zeus, Athena won by her wisdom and grace. We hope you and your student(s) enjoyed learning about Athena!
