Former foreign minister Alexander Downer backs US President Donald Trump’s strikes on Iran as “justified,” claiming Tehran’s actions in the Strait of Hormuz amounted to an act of war. “That is an act of war in and of itself. They're in breach of the ceasefire by doing that, so the Americans are entirely justified to attack them,” Mr Downer told Sky News host Steve Price. “Iran’s economy can’t survive for as long as they are unable to export their oil, and oil exports have diminished to negligible levels because of the American blockade.”
